Week 2: Christmas Eve

Dear fam,

I made it through the the first week!! It has a been an adventure! I have had a lot of cool experiences and a lot of ups and downs which is normal I guess. Man the food here does crazy stuff to your body haha that's one of the excitements here.

We have been teaching a couple investigators. We talk this guy named Reed Perkins and he was really cool he had a lot of questions about the temples and what we do in them.. That was interesting lesson. But it was good we got a lot of commitments from him. We asked him to read the scriptures and pray about it and he agreed.. We have also been teaching Sammy brown he is really cool guy. We have visited with him twice and we got him to read and pray about the scriptures so that is going good..

I am learning how to teach by the spirit and know the difference between my head the the spirit. They say that you don't know how much you have grown.. But I can tell haha I feel way different and I feel like I have grown so much in the past week it is crazy.

My companions and I struggled a couple days ago and we couldn't teach in the right way and with the spirit. But we worked through it together and are having a really good experience and we are bros for live.

We had a really cool spiritual experience last night and yesterday.. So elder Davis started to feel sick after lunch and all the way until we talk our new investigator NY.. ( we also taught her on Monday and we had a really bad experience with her cause we didn't have the spirit) but anyways so he decided to stay in the classroom while elder Bartlett and I taught her. And we had an amazing experience while teaching her the spirit was so strong. And we had a good lesson. While we were doing that elder Davis was in the classroom and sister pack ask if he could say a prayer. Cause sister pack was having a really hard time cause her visa didn't go through. So in that pray she was comforted. And after we all elder Davis came down and told us that we were in the right place. Cause we both had an amazing experience. And right after saying that prayer elder Davis got better immediately. And I think he was sick for a reason so he could help sister Davis. And I really needed to just have me and elder Bartlett teach. We all had a bro moment after and cried together which is awesome!! But that was really cool.

Today is Christmas Eve!!! Merry Christmas !! I love you!

Companion Update

My companions are Elder Bartlett and he is from Idaho and is a ginger and is very cool he is kind of like me haha. Mellow and kind of quiet. I am probably closest to him. He has a very strong testimony and is easy to get a long.

Then there is Elder Davis and he is very out going and he is from Texas and he is the loud one haha. He laughs at everything but he knows a lot about the church. Which is awesome.

I bunk with to other companions and one is from New Orleans and his ascent is very strong I love it. He just got converted to the church. And he has a very strong testimony and isn't afraid to share with anyone. His name is Elder Cubas.

Then there is elder cahan and he is quiet with a very loud strong deep voice. He is a good leader keeps us on time. He was called to our district leader which fits him. But yeah all awesome guys.

I will send pictures of us. We got iPads so we can send lots of pictures haha. Love you!

Love, Elder Brown

The one on the right is sister Jeffery she is really cool and nice and carry about call of us. The one on the left is sister pack and she is out going and really awesome. They keep us together as a district haha since we are all childish guys haha.

But the coolest experience I have had was in testimony meeting when people bore there testimony. It was a really cool experience the spirit was so strong and everyone was effected by it. And after a sister came up to me and told  me mine touched her heart out of all of them and then she thanked me for it. And that was a cool experience.

Haha you made to much food?? Well you can send it to me and I will eat it! ;) tell the kids I say hi!!

Week 1

Mom insert: He's doing great! This letter made my mom heart swell with joy. I am so glad Devin is serving a mission and already having incredible, testimony-building experiences. And he wrote such a great letter!!! Woo hoo!

Hey guys! How is home without me? I hope its good. Its been a really good experience so far and I am glad that I am here. Its really crazy here.

Which is good but I think I am already going crazy with my companions. My companions are awesome I have two cause one of them doesn't have one. So its interesting looking out for to people. Elder Bartlett and Elder Davis.

We had testimony last night and we met our Branch Presidents The spirit was so strong. Everyone could feel it through there bodies. And I bore my testimony and I am so great full that I did. A sister came up to me after and said mine touched her heart more than all the rest. And that was a pretty cool experience.

We are really busy ha ha. Which is good and normal.. Cause we dont think about home as much. Yesterday they Decided to Have a teach investigators the second day!! Like What?! So we were all really Nervous but excited at the same time. His name was Read Perkins and He was a really cool guy we got to know him and then answered any questions that he had about the church and it was a really cool experience. We taught him about temples and the history of the book of mormon. Then after we asked him to pray and he excepted. Then we asked if he wanted to meet with us again and he agreed. Which was really awesome.

My testimony has grown so much already since I have been out. I am not afraid anymore cause I dont need to be. I have my heavenly father. I have made a lot of friends in my district and Its been really good. And they have a weights to work out with!!!! And machines! So I wont get fat!! So my Pdays are on fridays while I am here. I love you guys. Tell the kids that I love them! Talk to you soon :)

His Last Night

I promise, just another couple of posts from me and then we'll wait for an update from Elder Brown himself.

So ... what do you do when he requests homemade scones for his last night? Even if you know it will make your home smell like cooking oil when the stake presidency shows up to set him apart? You make homemade scones, and the house smells, and it's okay.

T-2 Days

This is it folks! This young man heads to the MTC on Wednesday headed for Santa Rosa, California on Tuesday, January 5. We can hardly wait (and are dreading it all at the same time). He got his handsome missionary haircut, his bags are packed (he's ready to go ... standing here outside your door). Oh, wait, wrong song. The next post (we hope) will be the awesome letter he sends to his mom each week. Look out Santa Rosa--here comes Elder Brown!
