Week 100: December 4

Hey family,

This week was exactly the same as last week with few things that happened, Elder Naylor was still dead all week, we went to tons of doctors appointments they took his tube out I guess they are going to wait on surgery and see if it doesn’t come back. I think he should just have the surgery to make sure it doesn’t happen again. We are at doctors right now to get another chest X Ray.

We did have awesome dinner appointments, with one of the main families that we eat with they have a nonmember that lives there and he is a cool dude, we taught him the restoration and about he Book of Mormon, it was cool. He has had some bad experiences going to different churches and we invited him to come to ours and he said maybe, we had another lesson with him 2 days later about the Book of Mormon and that was pretty cool. We read the introductions with him and he was blown away by it. It was awesome I think he will get baptized pretty soon. But that was just about all of my week. This week my plan was about self reliance and has me do these key things,

Exercise faith in Jesus Christ
» Be obedient
» Solve problems, act for yourself
» Become one, serve others  

We will be able to become self reliant temporally emotionally and spiritually, the lord has provided a way for us to become what we want to become and what he wants us to become. That was pretty much my week. Love you!

Week 99: November 27

Hey!! I got my package thank you! And thank you dad for that little pie! Haha, this week was the exact same as last week. Elder Naylor is still dead. We took him to the doctor to get his tube out but they said the air pocket was still there and that he needed to keep it in so now today we are waiting for a call for him to go in and get surgery to fix it permanently, so yeah haven’t done much but sit and ponder life haha.

I did get him to go to thanksgiving dinner that was good had some non members show up. Sounds like you guys had a good thanksgiving but yeah I did do my plan it was a good section this week, what about continuously being a disciple of Jesus Christ and that we are always a missionary and to never forget that, also being that light at all times standing as a witness where ever we are, no matter what circumstance. It was good next this week it’s on eternal marriage 😬😆

I do like that analogy (we sent him an analogy Brother Fowler gave in Sunday School about going camping and having clouds of mosquitos. He used repellant but missed his wrists and ankles (the mosquitos of course found the “chink in his armor” and attacked). He compared that the Satan—he will find the chink in your armor and attack you there. An interesting analogy., as we put on the armor of god yes we protect ourselves from the big blows but Satan does know us and he has the dagger that fits perfectly between that armor but that’s what life is about even if we are doing everything we should be doing life isn’t perfect or going to be and that’s just fine cause life isn’t supposed to be that way we picked Heavenly fathers plan and that means we will face opposition to help us become like him, and that’s why the Atonement is so amazing cause we need it even if we have all the armor of god on we still are imperfect but it is so much easier to get through life with it haha. But yeah that’s pretty much my week.

Week 98: November 20

Hey!! Sounds like everyone had a good week this week, my week was exciting but not at the same time haha. Had transfers was this week got my new comp Elder Naylor he is a cool guy. I was with elder turley in eureka while we waited for our comps on Tuesday.

But Wednesday my companion had to go to the Emergency room because he got a air bubble in his right lung that if it didn’t get taken care of his lung would have collapsed, so we were in the emergency room all of Wednesday and he got a chest tube put in to drain the air out, so he has been in pain since then we will go to the doctor early this week and get it removed and after that he should be good. But that’s my whole week we couldn’t go out and do anything.

I am also doing my plan it’s a online thing they have you do right before going home, its has you set goals so you don’t go less active cause 50% of missionaries do. And it talks about goals we want to have while going home, it’s pretty cool 😎 but that’s my week love you guys!

Week 97: November 13

Hello family!

So for transfers! I am getting a new companion obviously haha, elder Hathaway left this morning and he will be home tomorrow! Super crazy how fast time goes by. But I will be getting Elder Naylor I don’t know much about him he is probably from Utah and I have only met him like twice. All I know is he is super smart so that’s cool 😎 I am excited I got 36 days left and that is just insane to think about.

But a little recap of my week had pday on Monday played basketball sprained my ankle pretty bad but oh well I had it coming haha.

Tuesday we didn’t have district meeting because zone conference was on Wednesday, so we did some finding and elder Hathaway said goodbye to Peggy that day because she was going out of town for the rest of the week.

Wednesday we had zone conference which was pretty good it was great to see president wright and sister wright I will definitely miss them so much. But we learned about the new smartphones that we just got! That’s crazy haha. And we learned about the gospel of Jesus Christ the third lesson and we had to teach it in 4 minutes and that was insane, but it was a good time, we also learned about how to help investigators keep commitments because that’s a huge thing investigators struggle with (of course cause it’s change haha) but we got some really good advice on that. It was also awesome to see some missionaries I started my mission with and I got pictures with them. After zone conference we went to dinner out on the farm where we did the service chopping would, that was fun we got meat loaf the second time in 2 years! Idk why but people don’t make meat loaf out here haha. So mom you gotta make meet loaf when I get home 😜

Thursday Elder Hathaway got super sick with a head cold so basically we stayed away from everyone until Saturday.

Friday we weekly planned.

Saturday was awesome we got a referral from Utah for this young girl who moved up here in Fortuna and she was going to church in Utah and really liked it and her name is Irina, she was adopted from Russia when she was 4. And she has a sister still there and she wants to go back there to see her so that’s a crazy story, but we met with her and taught her the Restoration it was cool she loved it and wants to continue to learn more, that was the highlight of the week.

Sunday we actually drove down to maranda again and gave another talk down there which was crazy haha. But it was good Elder Hathaway got to say goodbye to all of them. And the rest of the day we went around saying goodbye to all the members and getting pictures with them, this morning we said goodbye to them and I am staying with elder dye for the day. But that was my week! Sounds like you guys had a good week to! Love u!

Week 96: November 6

Hello! My week was pretty good Halloween was pretty sweet, we didn’t do anything fun really haha. Aspen the dog is doing really good she is super cute as usual 👍 I will try to get a pic with her tonight. Monday was good we had pday just did the normal ball and played magic, that night we went on Exchanges I was with elder dye up in Arcata it was fun, visited some people.

Tuesday we visited a lot of people and Halloween was sweet just a normal day it was good.

Wednesday we had district meeting that was the normal after we went finding a little bit. And we met with Peggy and made sure she was ready for baptism and she had an interview with our mission president, that all went well.

Then on Thursday was just another day went finding a little bit visited some member to say hi, that night we had the Book of Mormon class with a ton of old people it was fabulous.

Friday was weekly planning.

Saturday we got ready for our baptism with Peggy all day it was super good the baptism was at 4 was an awesome baptism elder Hathaway baptized her, a lot of the members showed up to support her that was needed.

Sunday was church, after we went less active finding. Had an awesome dinner with the Harrison’s. But that was my week!! Love u

Week 95: October 30

Hey so this week was basically full time service haha, so this weeks going to be short but Monday was good we had pday balled so hard played magic.

Tuesday was district meeting that was good after we went and had a lesson with our investigator (Peggy) that is getting baptized this Saturday! So that is sweet! After we went and did some service moving boxes.

Wednesday we went and had another lesson with her, after that we had service at the food bank and then we went and helped our other investigators with their house that they moved out of because they moved and they had to clean it. That was pretty sweet.

Thursday we went to a members and helped her chop wood and stack it it was super fun they got a lot of dogs, one of them looks like a lion it’s so big haha. But it was fun she had 2 huge owls In her broken down barn which was super cool to see. Thursday we did service for a member in Loleta they cut down trees they got a chipper so we came and chipped all the wood then went around their house and put some of it in there flower beds and then we went and dumped the rest, that pretty much took all day.

Friday was weekly planning we went and helped some others move there yard around.

Saturday was a normal day we prepared talks because we are talking Sunday down in the maranda branch that we cover, and we did a little finding after.

Sunday we went down and gave our talks and visited some people down there they also fed us lunch which was super cool, we drove back up and had dinner delivered to us. So that was pretty much my week! Love you guys

Week 94: October 23

This week was good Monday we had pday we played basketball did the normal thing on pday that night we went over to our neighbors which is the members that own the house and played foosball which was super fun. A lot more fun than I thought.

Tuesday we had district meeting which was sweet had a good practice on the Atonement. After we did some finding we also saw a couple people on our list we tried seeing some of our investigators but non of them answered sadly.

Wednesday was cool we went down to maranda which is a small town about and hour south of Fortuna part of our area, they have a small branch there and we went down there for the day and had dinner and tried to see some potentials which was not that successful but we had a sweet dinner with a awesome family out in the woods, they feed deer from there hands so that was super cool to watch super cute.

Thursday we had something cool happen, this less active came knocking on our door and said this guy needed help really bad moving cause his friend bailed on him, and it was supposed to rain that day so we ran over there and helped him for a couple hours and prayed that the rain would hold off and it did until we were done so that was super cool. He was a really cool dude, planted some seed hopefully he wasn’t really interesting in learning more but nice guy. After that we went and did some finding.

Friday was weekly planning day, had a sweet dinner that night with some old people that really like to talk so we got stuck there for a while.

Saturday was good we visited a couple members and some less actives, also did some service helping a member move some stuff.

Sunday was church which was sweet, after we visited a potential and after had dinner with a really awesome family, there daughter reminds me of aspen, super smart and loves to read and does gymnastics 🤸‍♂️ awesome family. But that was my week! Love u

Week 93: October 16

This week was good we are doing good, the fires are still going and lots of members houses got burnt down more than 50 right now and more than 11 dead so it’s crazy, last I heard president and sister wright were back in The mission home but there is no power. And this last week we didn’t have cell service because the cell towers got burnt down which was crazy. But they got portable ones up, gyserville just north of ukiah is getting evacuated, but they called the national guard in. So that’s what I know so far missionaries are still evacuated down there and the members, but this week was pretty good lots of service,

Monday was pday we played basketball and chair soccer which was fun and after we went and had dinner.

Tuesday was district meeting which was pretty good we made roles for the district, after we went and tried doing service for a investigator but he wasn’t home so we just did a little finding that day I am glad I am up hear in the fall it’s super pretty.

Wednesday we had service helping at the food bank it was fun we go to go pick Apple trees from the back. Do a little monkey tree climbing. After we went and visited a recent convert to try to teach her some more she is a cool person, she is like a old lady gangster hippie haha. But after that we did a little finding, that night we took the dogs out for a walk for contacting which was super cool.

Thursday we had service with our investigator which was cool we drove out to his house and helped him stack wood and play with his dogs after we went finding.

Friday was weekly planning pretty boring haha.

Saturday was good we went and did service for another member service all over basically this week which is awesome I love service.

Sunday was church had a good time they asked me to bare my testimony which was fine haha. After we went and gave a blessing to a member who just had a heart attack :( and then we went and visited another person. But yeah this week was pretty good, all is well. 👍 sounds like you guys are having fun back home! Today I hit 22 months!! Love you

Week 92: October 9

Update from the mission president regarding the fires in Santa Rosa (Devin is much farther north and has not been affected):

Thank you for your prayers! All missionaries affected by the fires in Northern CA are accounted for and safe. Those at risk have been evacuated and have a warm safe place to sleep. The Mission home and office are both untouched by the fire at this time. We will keep you updated.

Dear family, 

This week was awesome pday was the last pday for this transfer it was good to see everyone and say goodbye to the ones that are leaving including me haha. I was with elder Taylor for the day because my comp went with an elder to go to Santa Rosa. So it was super fun with elder Taylor.

Tuesday was transfers we left Davis at 8 am and we got to Santa Rosa and we switched luggage and said hi to a lot of missionaries which was sweet to see them, then we took off up to eureka I rode with elder dye a sweet elder that just came out so that was sweet, I drove and we stopped at IHOP with some other missionaries on the way up and we stopped by a couple places on the way up cause it was a 4 hour drive which I love because it's so amazingly beautiful up here, we stopped by some sweet shops through the redwoods so that was awesome! We go up there and we waited for our companions in Fortuna for an hour so we went around walking through the streets for a little but enjoying the northern air again, I love it up here is amazing. But after we got into our HOUSE we live in a HOUSE! It's amazing! It's so nice and we love right by members that owns the house and their are 2 huskies in the backyard that we have, there names are Aspen and Mystic. So tell Aspen I found her in dog form here 😜 they are the best dogs. We get to take them out on walks and care for them.

On Wednesday we had service at a banquet food place so we basically run it so that's awesome, the rest of the day we went and visited a couple people and to meet some people, as you know my comp is elder Hathaway he is awesome, he is from Morgan Utah. And he has a relatively big family a couple older siblings and younger as well.

Thursday we were going to have a service but the service canceled so we just went and visited some members and a couple potentials.

Friday was weekly planning so that was cool.

Saturday we had district meeting which was super fun elder Hathaway made peanut butter bars which were very good. They decided to send sister up here there was only sisters up here in eureka but they sent 2 sets up here which is pretty cool I guess haha. After we went and helped someone with moving and then we went finding. Played with the dogs too.

Sunday was church back to small ward of about 100 people, the ward is cool lots of awesome people. Bad news our mission is kinda on fire Santa Rosa is on fire and everywhere down there, everyone is getting evacuated its insane and scary, But that was my week. Love you guys!

Week 91: October 2

Dear family, 

This week was good, Monday was  we had a BBQ for elder Welty that night which was pretty fun it was at bishops house and we played this sweet game.

Tuesday we had district meeting and went to his awesome Hawaiian BBQ place which was amazing then we went on exchanges with the zls, I went with elder dye In woodland which was pretty good we had some sweet lessons during the exchange and we had a sweet dinner with their bishop.

Wednesday morning we went and lifted at this free gym which was pretty cool, we exchanged back and we drove to Vacaville because I had a meeting with charity which was a good meeting. Then we went finding pretty much all day after that.

Then Thursday we did some service for a Awesome less active we basically cut her tree down so that was fun. Then we went finding all day again and after we went and saw our investigators Trent and we also tried Seeing a referral that we got from the sisters. But they weren't home so that's sad.

Friday we had planning all day and we visited a ex comminuted member he was super super cool guys who new a ton about the scriptures.

Saturday we had general conference which was awesome! Really good talks!  Sunday was awesome too! We had the whole church to ourselves to watch general conference it was nice but kinda sad cause no one came😢 but it's okay.

Last night we just found out transfers!! I am going back up to eureka!! I will be serving in Fortuna! And I will be with elder Hathaway and I will be killing him cause it's his last transfer! Crazy! Then I only have 5 weeks after that! Sounds like everything is going well back home!! Love you!

Week 90: September 25

Dear family, 

This week was pretty good lots of things happened, Monday was pday of course. We had an awesome service project in the morning with one of our members from Brazil we helped him clean out this massive shed that flooded so we helped him clean it up and put everything in new boxes, and then after he cooked us Brazilian BBQ, and that was awesome super super good. After we went up to woodland and went to the park and played lava tag with the zone pretty fun, then that night we went and had a dinner with 2 single lady's and a recent convert Ron. It was a awesome meal. 

Tuesday we went to woodland which is about 20 min. Away and we got together and they practiced for our zone conference on Wednesday. But after we went and had lunch and then we went and had correlation with our ward mission leader and we talked about and elder that is from Dixon and went on a test mission and he is coming back this week and we will be with him for a week so that he can finish some stuff he needs to. Because he is going back out to the mission cause we was called to the Oakland mission. So that's cool. But after we had dinner and then we went and visited a referral from sister missionaries, they are from a Fiji so we went with the son and he is super super cool. 

Wednesday we had our zone conference which was a pretty good meeting with everyone talked about a lot, this mission is now getting smart phones which is crazy! And also more technology training and a lot on the Atonement and and the plan of salvation which was pretty cool. Then we had an amazing visit with a less active family talked about a lot with them. 

Thursday we went and had service at the thrift shop which was good then we went and did some technology stuff at the church and had lunch then we went and pickeup tons of seeds that a member gave me for my healthy shakes. And after we went and picked up elder Welty from bro Taylor he is pretty cool. He has had a very hard life.  It he is here so that's good. We went tracting with him for awhile. Then had dinner which was Good. 

Friday we did weekly planning them that night we had elder Welty and went finding had and that night we went and had dinner out in the country with an amazing family they have the most amazing yard I have ever seen in my life it's insane! 

Saturday we had interviews with president they went really well there will be a ton of missionaries coming in the next 2 transfers, and talked about some other stuff after went basically finding all day went and visited a less active family which was really good, we will do service for them this coming week and this week is the last week of the transfer which is crazy! 

Sunday we had church and then we went to out ward mission leaders house and he taught us about the Holy Ghost and planning which was good. After we had dinner and then we went and saw a couple of people. But yeah that's my week.

Week 89: September 18

Dear family, 

This week has gone by super super fast! It's crazy haha. So Monday pday of course went to the institute and hu out there all day played pingpong and pool and other various games also magic 👍 after we had dinner at our apartment. 

Tuesday we had district meeting it was really interesting meeting our district leader had a little fit and left district meeting and punched the door so that was interesting and then disappeared 😬 my comp elder Siebach taught on baptism for 45 min which was good it was an awesome lesson. After we went and had lunch and the zone practiced for their singing in then upcoming zone conference. After that we went finding tried to Visit some awesome peeps. Went to Denny's with an awesome member. After we did a little finding. 

Wednesday we went to the church and got our new area Book downloaded cause they made a new one so we downloaded it, and it's a lot worse than the last one so that's a bummer 😭 but it's all good. After we drove to west sac to because a member from a ward took us to Sacramento for my doctors appointment and i increased my dose of medication. So now it's 13 $ a month instead of 8$ 😕 but it's supposed to help a lot more. I won't have to go back to the doctor until I am home which is nice. But the awesome member took us to lunch after then we drove back and we visited Ron on his farm which was fun. Then we did finding the rest of the night. 

Thursday we went and did service for the thrift shop which was normal then went finding for most of the day that night we had an amazing lesson with a less active family and that was awesome we talked about sacrifice and she is applying for a new job at Costco so she can come to church and her daughter is coming to seminary which is 🔥! 

Friday was weekly planning all day with the new area Book which was okay. We had a sweet dinner that night with a military family. And we went and visited Ron which was sweet, but his friend was there and he was actually a recent convert that had been less active for a little and he listened on our lesson and said he wanted to come back to church with his wife so right after that we met with him and his wife and switched numbers so that was awesome. Sweet family. 

Saturday was service day, we went to a less actives house and basically re modeled her whole yard weeded the whole thing trimmed the rose bushes ripped all the grass on the patio weeded the garden mowed the lawn made it look gorgeous 😍 then she bought us donuts and after our ward mission leader took us to lunch which was awesome got an delicious Wendy's salad, after someone called us to help them move so we went and moves some people in which was awesome haven't done that in awhile. Then we went and got ready and had dinner then went to stake conference that night, was really focused on the temple attendance. 

Sunday was stake conference elder and sister wright were there, it was good to hear from them after we went and visited them, president look like he is doing good from surgery, after we went and did some planning we had awesome dinner with a part member family. 

You guys met Elder Southwick?! That's super cool! Did you meet anybody else ? Love you guys!

Week 88: September 11

Dear family, 

This week was pretty busy, I have heard a lot of what's been happening in Florida and Mexico and Texas it's crazy! And 2 other hurricanes coming and all the fires 🔥 just keep praying I guess ha. But Monday we had pday and we just hung out at the church and played games and magic and then we played some basketball and after we went to the Taylor's and they took us to chipotle and after we had icecream with them, their family is awesome! He gave me advice on my healthy smoothies that I am making everyday. So that's cool !

Tuesday we had district meeting it was really good and then after we had zone lunch with everything so that was awesome, then after we went and did some crazy finding trying to find all the less actives and also potentials. We had dinner and then we went and tracked the rest of the apartment complex that we were doing before. 

Wednesday we went and did some finding in the morning and then we had lunch then we had an awesome lesson with a recent convert. And after we went to a members and went through the whole ward list to see if he new any information on them so that took pretty much all day then dinner and after we went tracking and then we found an investigator that wanted to be taught so that was sweet. 

Thursday we pretty much tracted all day visited some other people and kept going, we had a sweet dinner that night and then kept finding after. 

Friday was weekly planning so that was the same haha

Saturday we went tracking and then after we made calls to people in the wars trying to find out who they are and went finding again after that so that was fun. Finding finding finding is what we pretty much do all day everyday trying to find people haha. 

Sunday we had church and then sang after church and then we went less active finding until dinner and then had a sweet dinner and after we sent our numbers in and then went finding after! So yeah that was my week! Sounds like you guys have had a fun time with school!! Do you know on how long the foster kids are going to stay?

Week 87: September 4

Dear family, 

This week was pretty much all finding, and super super hot 🔥 Monday we had pday we played soccer which was super fun and then we talked after and played games and then after we went tracking around the church that night. 

Tuesday we had district meeting which was good and then after we went to out DLs apartment and we had PPI'S so we just met with them and went over our goals for this transfer and then after we went finding and ran into this potential investigator with is sweet dog it was awesome we will be doing service for her sometime. But we continued to do finding the rest of the afternoon had dinner and did more finding. 

Wednesday we went on exchanges with our DLs so I went to Davis and we had service pretty much the rest of the afternoon it was super fun we went around took stickers off signs for the city with the sisters it was super cool. After service we went and had dinner with a YSA and that night we went finding. 

Thursday we had service again that morning where we went around with the sisters again and went and took graffiti off everything in the city so that was super fun. After we got called To go and move some people and that took forever most of the day then we went back and exchanged back and then we went and had dinner at Denny's with to awesome old ladies. That night we were able to visit a less active family it was good to meet with them. 

Friday was weekly planning all day and after we went and tracked some apartment complexes so that was okay. 

Saturday was good we went tracking and it was 112 degrees outside so we were a little hot we didn't do that all day though 😂 or they would had have to peeled us off the sidewalk haha. But we had an awesome dinner with a sweet family with the cutest dog and then comp study. 

Sunday was church we had a good time, after we went and visited families until dinner and after more tracking. So at was my week! Love ya!!
