Week 3: January 25

I will start with your questions

1. Tell us more about your ward. How many members? Active? Inactive? I don't know how many members we have but there is a lot of active and inactive haha. The members are really awesome and crazy haha. There pretty weird people I love them though.

2. Do you spend a lot of time working with inactive members or more time tracting for new contacts? We spend a lot of time with inactive members probably more than new contacts cause there easier to find and make appt. with them. But we try to find new contacts of course.

3. How many investigators are you currently working with? Umm I think we are working with 5 investigators haha

4. You mentioned a couple more potential baptisms—how are those coming? So we have Varsity she is going get baptized in a couple months. We are teaching her all the lessons.

5. How many appointments do you typically have in a day? We have around 4 or 5 a day.. But things are slowing down so 3 to 4

6. Are the members supportive of missionary work? Do they provide contacts or have discussion in their homes? The members are really supportive with us. We have meetings every Sunday morning just about the ward and the missionaries and how things are going. We try to have members at a lot of our lessons.

7. You typically eat with members once/day? What type of meals do you like? Dislike? We have dinner at members houses once a day. Cause every Sunday we have a calendar we pass around the ward and they sign up to feed us. Sometimes we don't have anyone signed up some days so we just eat what we have. I have liked everymeal that have been fed.. We have had a lot of tacos and steak and potatoes.

8. What are you studying in personal study? Companion study? I am studying the book of Mormons I am reading in 2 nephi and I am studying preach my gospel.. In comp study we study 12 week it's a book new missionaries study for 12 weeks to help them learn how to teach and to be better and missionary work.

9. How are the mundane day-to-day things like cooking and laundry going? Figuring everything out? Cooking is going good I make eggs in the morning and toast and I have an apple, and milk for lunch I make a sandwich and have an apple and carrots and sometimes I make theses amazing  chicken cheese fried tacos. Laundry is taken Care of we have a member that lets us do laundry at her house. Which is really nice.

10. What do you do on P-day? So on p day we clean our apartment when we wake up and then we we do laundry and write home and then we either play basketball or we go on a hike or we go to this game shop and play board games with some members. Or we go skating.

11. What is the biggest lesson you have learned so far? The biggest lesson I have learned to far is to be ready to get out of my comfort zone all the time.

So I forgot my journal today so I will try my best to remember this week. We went on exchanges Monday night and Tuesday thorough Wednesday.. I went on exchanges with another elder Taylor.  He is really cool..

Tuesday we went and tried to contact lots of people but we got rejected which is really sad haha. But normal. We had dinner with these awesome members.. They asked us a weird question " is a baby born free " it's a weird question but there is a lot of thinking in it haha. We then went and helped the youngs move this huge exercise thing into there room and it took forever haha.

Wednesday we had zone conference and it was from 9 to 4:30 super long!! But good Elder Bednar spoke and some others but I learned to help investigators feel the Holy Ghost and how we can't force it into there hearts.. But we can bring the Spirit and the understanding unto their heart but it is up to them to open there hearts and let it in.. And I think that's one of the main problems people don't open up there heart.. But all we can do is bring it to them.. So hopefully they can recognize it. But that was long haha. After that we went to the Gomez family's house and taught them about more plan of salvation we showed this awesome video. It's for kids or people with little understanding.. It's called " our eternal life" but

on Thursday we.. I can't remember that stinks.. Haha

Friday had this surprise birthday party for sister low and the whole zone was here it was awesome we played basketball and soccer and had cake and pizza.. That was in lake port.. It's about an hour away from Ukiah.. On the way back we saw this really bad car accident. So it was freaky driving home cause we were driving through a mountain so there was a lot of cliffs and windy roads. But that night we went to kyrics house and he is a member but his girlfriend is a investigator so we played games with them and ate this amazing pasta stuff.

Saturday we played basketball with the ward and some investigators and we visited Sister Henry her husband died a couple weeks ago so we just visited her.. She needs people.

Sunday in church the bishop asked me to bare my testimony out of now where so that was freaky but I didn't die ;) it was good.. That night we had dinner with members called the Andrus family, I gave there home a harvest blessing those are really cool.. It's a blessing here we all kneel down and we ask them what they would ask Jesus if he was there and what they needed help with. So I gave the blessing so that was cool... That's my week!

Tell the kids I love them and i miss them!

2nd Week in the Field: January 18

Hey family!

So I will start off by answering all of the questions!

1.       Are you just over one ward? Which ward(s)? I am over just one ward, the first ward. There is only 2 wards here haha.

2.       How big is your area? How many members? The ward is really small haha about 100 members and my area is pretty small we just stick around Ukiah.

3.       How many other missionaries are in the same area? So there is us 2 then there is the Spanish missionaries. They are a trio, elder kimber, elder morales, and elder Gonzales. They're pretty sweet. And it's just us haha. In the area at least.

4.       How many missionaries are in your same house? How many beds/baths does it have? So there is only me and Elder Taylor in the apartment. It's pretty small. I will attach some pictures of it.

5.       Do you have a lot of meal appointments? We have meal appointments ever night with members and people. And then We share a spiritual thought after.

6.       Are you going to be exclusively driving a car or will you possibly need a bike? We will be driving most all the time. I don't need a bike right now probably won't be needing one.

7.       How long has your companion been serving in your current area? Elder Taylor has been in the area for 2 months. He loves it

8.       What is the best experience you’ve had so far in the field? The best experience I have had so far is the baptism of Michael and rose which was on Friday it was a really really amazing experience the spirit was really strong. And also all the service we do.

9.   What is the funnest thing you’ve done? The funniest thing I have done? Umm I went on an exchange to kelseyville. About an hour away and the drive was so beautiful got some pics. Then went on exchanges with our zone leader elder baylock we is pretty chilllaxed :) it was awesome experience I saw elder Davis. That was awesome!

10.   What’s the craziest thing you’ve eaten? The craziest thing I have eaten so far is octopus... Nasty!!

So this week was pretty good a little slower we had zone meeting on Tuesday and that was really cool haha. I got to know all of the other missionary's I love them all. My zone is about 20 missionaries. Not that big haha :) I learned in the zone meeting to work hard but to have fun as well. Combine the 2. Some people when they work they don't have fun they just do it to get through it. The trick is to do both have fun while teaching. It makes it 10'times better and people notice it. After that we did exchanges that day and that was awesome as I said above.

Wednesday was rejection day.. We visited a lot of people and know one wanted anything to do with us haha( this is in keysville) so all day was us trying to get someone to talk to haha. It was fun though.

Elder Blaylock is pretty sweet.. He is very spiritual. We the. Drove back to Ukiah on this crazy death road. Luckily we had a jeep ;)

We exchanged back that night.. And that night we taught the Gomez family. They are awesome! We taught the plan of salvation. Thursday we had to run a couple Aron's for Elder Taylor and we visited brother Paige he is awesome he is in a resting home and loves us haha. We taught him about prayer and how it effects our Daily lives. That night we went to brother Lucas house. He is one amazing man and has thousands of crazy stories. We then studied that night afterward..

So Friday we did service at the humanitarian place and we walked that dogs and played with the cats.. It was an amazing experience. Cause animals are awesome! We went to the Asian buffet that night and got fat.

After was the baptism of Michael and Rose ! It was so awesome! Tons of people came and it was a wonderful experience. We went out for icecream after, I guess that's what you do when you get a baptism! So Michael and rose are married and they have a little boy and they have been investigators for 1 full year so it's really amazing that they finally got baptized. And they actually were going to get divorced a week earlier. But we taught them about families and how people have differences and how to work through them together they are really awesome. Michael is a doctors he is a back pain Doctor.

So Saturday we played basketball and then we went and ran dogs again. Good workout! I got weights!! So of course I am working out! ;) Elder Taylor's gave me is bench and his weights. It is raining like crazy. Flooding everywhere.. It's awesome !!

Sunday we went to church and we had to teach gospel doctrines class and Was cool. We taught on the Sacrament and what it does for us. That night we went to a members house and ate this huge dinner it was.. Glory. Then I taught everyone about the family. That was my week of coolness!!! Love you!!!!

Love,

1st Week in the Field: January 11

Hey family!!

This week has been crazy!! A lot of crazy stuff has happened haha. On Tuesday we arrived in Oakland Cali and the. We met our stake [mission?] president and he is the best! The nicest man I have ever met. He is so awesome.

We then drove to a church and then we met all of our companions. And my companion is named Elder Taylor. He is pretty awesome. He is pretty much like me, just a more little outgoing. [Additional companion info from later email: My companion is from Canada and he loves ice hockey and girls haha he is awesome. He goes home next month though which stinks cause I have to get a new trainer. But that's cool too haha. After that we went to the mission home and ate food and said goodbye to are companions and then we drove to our apartment in Ukiah!!! That's where I am serving right now... Its super geto haha there is a lot of crazies here. And guess what! I live in a pink house! It's called the pink palace. It's pretty sweet. [I will send more pictures of inside too haha.]

So the first full day I was there we visited a couple people...But that night we had to meet with this lady who says her friends husband was possessed and she performed and exorcist using this weird oil.. And she said it was the easiest one she has ever performed.. So.. That was kind of freaky.. So we met with the bishop and told her that the church doesn't do that unless we have to. Soo I guess this kind of stuff happens a lot here haha.

But through the whole week we met with rose and Michael young.. And they are getting baptized! They are the sweetest family. The baptism is on Friday. We had over 20 lessons this week.. I don't remember all of them.. We met with this family we love.. The Gomez family the mom is a member but all her kids are not.. So we are going to teach all of them.. The youngest who is 8 wants to be baptized. So that's awesome!! Her name is varsity. We also have this couple who is really awesome the guy is a member but the girlfriend is not so we are trying to teach her they are our favorite haha. We play a lot of board games with them every Saturday night

The ward here is pretty cool. We visit a lot of in active members. And we have a ton of investigators. We do a ton of service haha we feed the homeless on Thursdays and we work and the food bank on Wednesdays and we walk these amazing cute dogs on Fridays. At the humanitarian center.. And we get to play with all the Animals. It's awesome haha.

Sorry I am kind of all over the place haha.. But we should have 3 baptisms coming up!! Any questions? Love you!!

Arrived Safely

Dear Brother and Sister Brown,

Your dear missionary arrived safely and is excited to begin the work of the Lord.    A great companion has been assigned and they are off to their new area.  Hopefully, you have been notified of their new address as the mail to the missionaries is their life-line.

Attached is a picture  of the great Mission President and his wife that they will be working with throughout their mission.

We know your family will be blessed for the sacrifice you have made in sending out your loved one to bring souls unto Christ.

Sincerely,
Sister Larson, Mission Secretary

Week 3: New Year's

Dear fam,

How is everything? How is the beach ? Are you guys leaving today? Or staying until Monday? How are the kids doing? Tell them I say hi and I love them. This week has been long and hard and good. Haha a lot of ups and downs but awesome. Sadily I don't remember my days cause there long. But they go fast also haha.  Umm I don't have my journal with me but I will try to remember..

We have been teaching a lot of investigators. We teach this girl Rachel in the morning and she is 19 and her mom has breast cancer.. And we are trying help her the best we can with comforting her. We went over the plan of salvation with her and explained what happens after we die and where we go. We explained the importance of prayer to her and how it will truly help her find the answers that she is looking for.. And help her be at peace.. We also teach this Asian his name is Kia and he is really cool. He has a lot of Mormon friends and some of them asked him to meet with the missionaries. He agreed obviously haha. He has a ton of religious back ground with the Catholic Church. He also took a ton of religious classes. And studies the bible so it was really hard to get him to feel the spirit. And the spiritual side. But it was good.. We also teach this girl named NY she is really quiet and she is from Madagascar.. The first meeting didn't go that well haha... But as we got to know her we make her laugh now which is awesome. We just finished teaching her the plan of salvation and asked her to be baptized. She said she wants more time, but she will work towards it. Which is good!

I have come to understand how important companion unity is. And that we need to work together as one. Since I am in a trio it's been really had to do that there have been a lot of fighting and arguing... Finally I made all of us sit down and talk about it. So we are good now.. We teach with the spirit a lot better as we work together.. Yesterday we had in field orientation and learned how important members are and how we need to have a close relationship them. This week has been pretty good.. I leave on Tuesday!! I am excited!  We leave at 4 am which is going to suck. But still cool! Love you guys!
